LIKE WHAT YOU SEE?

Our dogs are all spayed/neutered, vet checked and vaccinated prior to adoption. Our adoption fees range from $100 to $250, depending on the individual case. We only adopt our dogs out to loving and responsible homes!

We believe in only placing the best examples of this breed, as this will be the only way for these wonderful breeds to restore their reputation that has been so badly damaged by the media and irresponsible owners. We only place dogs with rock-solid temperaments and accept absolutely NO human aggression. We avoid placing dogs with high levels of dog aggression, or who are known escape artists. It is our goal to ensure that all dogs placed by us are both physically and mentally sound. All potential adoptive homes are thoroughly screened, as it is our wish that each dog we place will serve as a breed ambassador!

HOLLY

Well she's waited a long time, but Holly is now ready to look for her forever home. Either Dogo Argentino or American Bulldog mix, this adorable girl turns heads wherever she goes, and her magnetic personality draws you in.

This sweet girl didn't have a promising start in life. Surrendered to a shelter at 4 months, deaf and suffering hip dysplasia, Holly's chances of adoption were slim to none. After being contacted by the shelter asking if there was anything we could do for this adorable pup, one of HugABull's directors met Holly, and soon discovered that this little girl had such a bright and shining personality, she definitely deserved a chance at good health, and a great home. The biggest challenge was finding a foster home that would commit to Holly's surgery recovery, and specialized training, knowing that it could take some time until her adoptive home came along. Well, HugABull didn't look long before a wonderful family offered to take Holly in to their home for as long as it took.

It's been a busy few months for this girl and her foster home. With the generous support of many individuals through HugABull's Lovely Fund, Holly underwent femoral head ostomy surgery on December 22, 2007. Holly's recovery has progressed well, through swimming therapy with Kendall and her staff at K9H2O, and lots of exercise with her canine foster sisters! Her recent check-up indicated that Holly is healing well, and should have a fairly active adult life once she builds up some more muscle to support her hip.

Her foster home has also started Holly in an obedience class using a flashlight instead of a clicker, and she is proving to be one smart pup. Deaf dogs make wonderful and amazing companions. Like all pups, Holly is fun loving, playful, curious, mischievous, and sometimes a little cheeky. Most of all, she's loves to be loved, and this special girl deserves a very special home.

SWEET JANE

Sweet Jane is a compact bundle of love. Weighing in at under 40lbs, this pocket pit has tons of personality in a tiny package.

Jane was first adopted from HugABull nearly two years ago, and was recently returned because her family was moving and unable to find Pit Bull-friendly housing. Jane has been back in our foster program for a month, to allow us to get to know her again, and we are delighted to report she's just as lovely as ever, and is now available for adoption.

Jane's foster dad reports she's a total dream in the house, and that her favourite passtime is cuddling and greeting everyone she meets with kisses. Jane recently went with her foster dad and some friends on a canoe and camping trip, where she was the life of the party, and took turns warming everyone's sleeping bags.

Jane is three years old, and is quite reactive around other dogs, although she has shown she can have doggy friends with slow and careful introductions. Jane is enrolled in our upcoming session of Pit Ed classes, and will benefit from having this continued by her adoptive family. Jane would also prefer a feline free environment.

Jane is a zoomie queen: "She makes me laugh when we go out for a run in the feild. She zooms circles around me at top speed, and the look on her face is pure bliss." and is ready to live it up and find some who can dish out as much love as she can!

If you think Janey might be a good match for you, please fill out an application form.

COURTESY LISTING - PIPPY

Pippy is 40 little pounds of adorable. Pippy is about a year old and has all the energy of a puppy. She likes dogs and people although sometimes small people scare her. She is very affectionate with her foster mom and her two canine companions, loving to curl up close with her face against your face.

Pippy has been spayed, vaccinated, and tattooed and is house trained. She is a wonderful little athlete who would be a wonder in agility classes. She has been with her foster family about 4 months but still exhibits some tail chasing anxiety. If you think this lovely little girl could be a forever part of your heart and home and you would like to know more or meet her, please contact Sue at 604-580-8889 or by email at susanfit@shaw.ca.

COURTESY LISTING - PHOENIX

Phoenix is a beautiful young girl, at just over a year old. She has been in our care since the fall of 2007. Phoenix is loveable, very sweet & cuddly, and very smart. Although she is deaf, she catches on easily to "doggy sign language". Phoenix has some neurological impairments that seem not to affect her everyday health - she has undergone numerous medical tests while in our care, including an MRI; none of this shows us *why* she has neurological symptoms (head bobbing, disorientation, short attention span and some loss of balance) and after exhausting the options, Phoenix may well live a long life, and wants to be a part of that perfect family!

Phoenix would benefit from some training classes with her new family, and further socialization as she can be timid in new situations. She loves other dogs - as long as they're not too "bossy", and would make a great companion.

COURTESY LISTING - MINNIE

Hey folks, it's Minnie here. Yes, it's true, I did just celebrate my year anniversary at the SPCA. And while I love all the attention the gals here give me, it's time for me to settle down in a permanent situation. A gal needs a place of her own to waggle her bum and mooch treats, right? So check out my ad below, and see if I am your forever companion. Thanks, love Minnie Moo.

Single black and white female seeks companion(s) for lifelong commitment. I am an adult lady with soulful brown eyes and a cute athletic body. My interests include long walks with loved ones, snuggling on the couch, and perfecting my butt wiggle. I am a very good listener, who learns quickly. For example, I have my basic manners (crate training, sit, down, and stay commands) down pat, and could certainly be trained to excel at other things. I've been told I am very special, and therefore I will accept nothing less than perfection from my future companion(s). You must be able to ensure I will be the only love in your life (no other dogs or cats), and that any playmates (children) you might have are over the age of 8 years. I am seeking someone who will fulfill my playful side by providing me daily exercise and lots of attention. I would really prefer someone who has previous experience with dogs - let's face it, a diva like me has no time to train her new companion(s)! Do I sound like the right lady for you? Let's meet! Please visit me at the Lloydminster & District SPCA during operating hours, and see if we can make a love match. All members of the family must attend.

ADOPTED! - SLIM

Slim was picked up by a good Samaritan on a roadside, running stray and starving. According to the vet, another week and this awesome little dog would not have made it. But even near death, Slim had a tail wag for everyone he met, and we knew this temperament was exactly what HugABull looks for in our pit bulls.

Now that Slim has come into HugABull's foster program, he has absolutely flourished with love, proper nutrition, and training. Slim is approximately 1.5 years old and just learning how great life can actually be. He is a smart little cookie who has mastered Sit, Shake, High 5, and is well on his way to learning his Down, Stay, and even Dancing! He is very food motivated but also very verbally correctable, wanting to work for praise from his handler. He even fetches like a rockstar, giving an Out on command and waiting for the next throw.

Slim is learning his manners regarding meeting new dogs, and we believe he will be fine to live with another dog once properly introduced. He has also learned to respect his foster home's cat under supervision so may do just fine in a house with a dog-savvy cat.

This big goofball is a happy dork who loves everyone and has found a new lease on life. Probably because of neglect in the past, Slim has some separation/confinement anxiety but is coming along as his foster home works with him on his crate training and he learns to trust that his beloved people WILL come back for him! He is currently completing his 30 day foster evaluation period before becoming available for adoption, so we will update his bio as we get to know him even better.

If you are interested in Slim, **please do not send an email**, please fill out an application form.

ADOPTED! - COURTESY LISTING - SUNNY

We believe Sunny is about 4. She is a real sweetheart and she loves her belly rubs! She is really laid back, but she doesn't get along with other dogs. However we believe that could be worked on. Sunny came to us from Hazelton Animal Control as a stray so her experience with other dogs was probably not a positive one.

ADOPTED! - CHOOCHA

This gorgeous girl absolutely loves life! Always greets everyone with a full body wag, and if you're lucky, she just might show you her favourite toy.

Choocha is a Pit Bull, mixed with what is mostly likely Lab. She is between 8-10 months old, quiet and non-destructive when left alone, and fully housebroken. Choocha has just recovered from a minor case of mange, and is doing extremely well. She knows her basic commands, but of course would benefit from an obedience class so she can show her new owner how smart she is.

This girl would love a family of her own, and would do well in a home with children.

If you think Choocha is the dog you've been looking for, please fill out an application form.

ADOPTED! - MISSY

Missy Miss has just completed her foster holding period and what a little doll she is! Missy asked that we post the following ad up for her:

I am a Single White Female (spayed of course!), seeking my forever family in a home that will love me and cuddle me and let me entertain them with my outgoing, energetic personality. I would prefer my humans to have an active lifestyle that will include me in their adventures, whether it's going running or on hikes, to work with them sometimes if possible, or in the car to run errands...I just love to be around my peeps!

Likes: playful dogs, snuggling, squeaky toys, zooming, fine food, boundaries, routine, car rides, naps on the couch, kissing, kids, PEOPLE!

Dislikes: being confined, CATS!

I am a compact little girl, big personality in a small package. I have pretty brindle ears and only one brindle patch on my otherwise perfectly white body. I have a ton of love to give, and I think I would be a great urban/condo dog because I am such a petite pittie girl.

If you are interested in getting to know me better, and are looking for a long-term, committed relationship, please fill out an application form.

Hope to hear from you! Yours, Missy

ADOPTED! - COURTESY LISTING - NARONE

Narone's personality is as soft as his beautiful fawn-and-white coat. He is a gentle, affectionate dog with a lot of love to share. A genuinely nice boy, Narone is a bit reserved until he gets to know you - which doesn't take long - and then he just wants to be your best bud. He would be perfect for someone who likes a dog that is totally devoted to their owner, and who leads a quieter home life coupled with a somewhat athletic lifestyle.

Narone will politely acknowledge other people around him, but he truly simply lives and breathes to please that special one person who shows him kind handling and tlc. We don't think Narone has had much chance to show this side of his personality, because of his reserved nature in the kennels. However if you give him the chance, he will gladly cuddle up to anyone who is nice to him.

He is quiet natured, but very athletic, which actually describes him to a T; Narone won't bounce off walls with pent-up enthusiasm, but can easily keep up on a hike when enjoying the great outdoors! Narone came in to the shelter with a young female dog, so he could be all right with another female canine companion, but can be reactive with other dominant male dogs, so he should go to a large dog experienced home. Narone does pull somewhat on-leash, but since he has a good brain to match his good looks, he will learn to "heel" in no time. Car rides seem pretty new to him - he wants to drive! - but practice makes perfect. Truly, Narone has probably not had a lot of worldly experiences, and some of them probably haven't been the most positive ones at that, but this dog would blossom with a quiet home that would show him there are good people out in this world. One that gives out free belly rubs would be really great too 'cause he loves those!

If you're interested in Narone, please contact Vancouver Animal Shelter. 1280 Raymur Avenue in East Vancouver. 604-871-6885
